A lot has happened since we last posted. We apologize for that but you'll understand in a few moments. Since we last left you we were enjoying the beautiful cornucopia of sights driving through Illinois and into Kansas. As we made our way into Kansas we had the opportunity to catch up with Shannon's friends from college, Sally and Kevin Fox. We met them at the famous Arthur Bryant's BBQ for lunch. What an amazing time we had. I believe everyone would agree time was too short. Hopefully they get the opportunity to bring their wonderful boys up to Alaska to visit. The only bad part was that we forgot to take pictures. I guess there's next time. After we left them we made our way to Manhattan, Kansas.
Not a bad little town, home of Kansas U and all the students were curiously absent from the town. I guess they were all prepping for first day of school. Do college students do that sort of thing? Maybe I'll learn that in the future. Cerys and I had a good night in the pool as we gave Shannon some time to herself. Even though we had a good time I believe it was the beginning of my demise... From Manhattan we drove to Colorado to catch up with my Uncle Roger and Aunt Ruth.
The drive was uneventful really. It's a pretty boring drive. If you haven't had the opportunity to drive I70 you should try it once. We got to their place with minimal issues and had a wonderful lasagna dinner. The next day we went to check out R&R Graphics and catch up with Adam, my cousin. Roger and Adam have done pretty well with the business and it looks to be getting even better for them. We then went to Adam's house to meet his wonderful wife Sheila and their beautiful daughters Molly, Mia and Lila. Cerys played so wonderful with them, like they knew each other for ages. Unfortunately, this is where I started to fade. Even though Adam and Sheila made a wonderful lunch I wasn't feeling so well. We had to pull Cerys away and head back to Rogers. Once there I laid down to rest but before that we took my temp...it was 99.4. Not good. This sucked because Mat came over with his wife Erin and their son Landon and daughter Emma. Mat cooked up a wonder steak dinner and I ate quite a bit but had to excuse myself. This time we checked my temp it was 100.4. I would spend the night fluctuating between 99.7 to 100.7. By the time I went to the urgent care the next day I was at 101. Seems I picked up a viral infection, possibly at that pool in Manhattan.
So I spent the entire next day in bed, sweating, freezing and trying beat that fever. Thankfully we were at Roger and Ruth's and they let us stay an extra day so I could fight this thing off. Cerys didn't miss a beat as she fell in love with Uncle Roger on day one. Their laughter throughout the evening let me know not all was bad. Now here is where I have to say I have the best wife in the world. Shannon took care of me while ensuring Cerys was good. She also made all the hotel reservation changes so we wouldn't miss a beat. You know what....we didn't miss a beat.
I broke the fever by the next day and we were off like a herd of turtles again. Shannon drove most of the way as she knew I wouldn't be up to the task but I would try. We made our way to Cody, Wyoming. The drive was spectacular as the scenery is like no where else in the world. The only problems are with Wyoming's road construction. They like to have you sit a stop lights for ages and wait for 'pilot cars' to take you through the construction. We got to Cody and stayed at the Chamberlain Inn, built in 1904. It was nice. We also ate at the Sliver Dollar Bar, not a bad burger. I opted out of the Rocky Mountain Oysters as I didn't want to eat all those nuts myself....
That brings us to today. We headed to Yellowstone National Park. What an absolutely incredible drive to the east entrance. Words and pictures cannot do it justice. When we got to the park the entrance fee was $25 so I asked about the military park pass. The woman said she could take care of that just show my ID. Well, we got a year's pass to all federal parks for free. How cool is that? The initial drive through again was incredible. We even broke our Bison cherry and took a pic, see below. We then made our way to see Old Faithful. It was worth the trip as it's pretty neat opportunity. Once we were done we followed the GPS to Great Falls, Montana. We took some amazing back roads and saw many deer, llama, horses and so much beautiful landscape.
That leaves us where we are now. In the hotel drinking Moose Drool and Pig's Ass. Eating Triscuits with Lemon/Honey goat's cheese. Although Cerys is being a bit of a pain and not going to sleep right now, she has been great this whole time. She sings, makes up stories with her friends, demands to watch movies (our bad) but all in all does great in the back seat. She even has her own binoculars and I think she uses them correctly.
Well that should be us up to date. Tomorrow we head of to 'Canadia' for a week of travels. More to follow.
Love you all
The Traveling Ellis Family.
