First Full Day in Alaska

Yesterday was our first whole day here, and we spent most of it driving around, looking at houses from the outside. We had one appointment, but unfortunately the listing never mentioned it was a duplex. Deal-breaker! So, we just drove around and scoped out neighborhoods and other rentals available, crossing a few off our list immediately if they were right on top of other houses, or way too deep into rabbit warren neighborhoods. If its going to take 40 minutes for Jason to get to base we might as well live in a nicer house farther away. We have another appointment to see a house today and are hoping to make a few more for today, too.

Unfortunately, most of the houses that we really liked had already been rented by the time we got up here. We have 30 days in the temporary lodging we are in now. We just have to take our time, as much as we'd like to be in a house. This is like a one bedroom apartment, with a small uncomfortable bed (I woke up lurching around like Quasimodo today). Cerys has a pull out couch bed in the living room, equally as back-breaking. There is also a family of nocturnal elephants in the apartment upstairs. Otherwise, it's great.... Actually, it is great compared to where we had to stay when we arrived from England. It was so dark and tiny we had to rent a storage unit for the few boxes we sent to ourselves so we had room to move. It was one room and the closet door wouldn't open because the bed was in the way. This place here is a mansion compared to that!

Wish us luck today while we search for a new home!
